IAAS Examination
The Examination Control Division of IAAS is responsible for conducting all exam-related activities of the institute. The Examination Conduction Committee of IAAS conducts exams and publishes the results of semester examinations, both theory and practical.
The institute follows a semester system of examination for evaluation. At the Bachelor level, 20% of full marks in theory in each subject are evaluated internally through an internal assessment. The student must secure at least 40% marks in the internal assessment to qualify for the final examination. The course teacher gives one chance for a makeup test to those who fail the first internal assessment or missed for a valid reason. At Masters level, internal assessment carries 50% of the full marks of each subject. For the internal evaluation, the weightage of the quiz and term paper (assignment) is 50:50. In this level, there is no provision for a makeup examination for the students who fail the internal assessment. There will be no makeup (chance) if the final examination is missed. In this case, the student will have to pass the course (s) under the Back Paper Examination in the following semesters. A student failing in the final examination of either theory or practical or both will be required to re-enroll and pass the course.
In the Bachelor level, the Examination Control Division of the institute conducts a separate final theory examination with 80% of total marks and 100% of practical for each level through an external system of examination. A student must secure at least 40% marks in theory and practical separately to pass the final theory and practical examination in each subject. The students who fail the final theory or practical examination are allowed to take a Chance Examination conducted by the Examination Division each semester after about a month of the announcement of the result of the regular semester examination. Such students need not repeat the course provided they pass the internal assessment and qualify for the final examination. Those who fail the chance examination should re-enroll in the semester and appear in the semester examination along with the regular students of the particular semester.
For the master's level, for all examinations, the pass mark is 50% of the full mark. MS students must secure a satisfactory result in their thesis to pass the level. They have to submit the thesis draft within two years of their enrollment to the program, otherwise, they have to enroll the semester to a maximum of 12 semesters (6 years). To be eligible to submit the M.Sc. thesis draft, students must pass the result seminar and the comprehensive exam. Institute (campuses) offers the grade sheets and character certificates, whereas the transcript and the certificate (original/ main) are issued by the office of the controller of the examination of TU. There is the provision of re-totaling for final theory exam marks in both levels and all degrees.
A student must attend at least 70% and 85% (80% in special cases) of classes in each subject to be eligible for final examination of bachelor's and master's level, respectively. Failure to meet the minimum attendance requirement may prevent a student from taking the final examination. A student must have taken the internal assessment exam to be qualified for the final or the back-paper examination. For only practical courses, a student must have attended the practical class as reflected in the attendance register of the course instructor.
